I started learning basic programming with Codecademy this week. Why is it that those little badges on the right are so validating? They give you a new one every time you complete a course or hit a certain milestone, so learning HTML, CSS, or Javascript seems totally doable. I would definitely recommend the site to anyone who is intimidated by programming and computer-speak; Codecademy breaks the lessons into bite-size chunks written in normal, jargon-free language so everyone can learn.
The lesson plans are crowdsourced, so if you know any programming languages you can log on and start writing your own lessons. The concept is pretty revolutionary, and I think it has the power to change the way we learn and access information in the same widespread way that Wikipedia did a few years back. I can’t wait to watch Codecademy grow.
P.S. I coded the hyperlink myself. Impressive, no? ;)
